Tutorials Lesson 2: Uploading Video Files

In the Getting Started tutorial, we show how to upload a typical video.

In this one, I'm going to show what happens when you upload a video that needs to be converted.

What does "converted" mean? Well, some video formats are better suited to online viewing than others.

When you upload a file, MyZinky checks it, and if the format won't play in most browsers, MyZinky will automatically convert it to one that will.

In this example, I'm already logged in, and I'm going to upload an AVI file, which is a file type that needs converting.

I just click Upload, and pick a file from my computer, or drag and drop it into the upload box.

You can see here it's an AVI file. You can also see the file name includes a date.

I enter a title for this video, and I click "Upload".

This one's almost 5 gigabytes, so the upload takes a while, but I'll speed it up.

First, the file uploads. Second, MyZinky processes the audio, so later you can search for something someone said... like a name, or "happy birthday"... and jump right to that moment.

Third, MyZinky asks for a little more information about the video. You can see it even wrote a description and entered the date for me.

I can edit any of that information before saving it.

Now on my "Videos" page, you can see my video is listed as "Processing". That's because it's not done converting.

A short video usually takes a minute or two to convert, and a long one can take several minutes.

When it's done, you'll see the "Processing" status goes away and is replaced with a cover picture.

If I click on the video, I can now play it.

I also have a strip of preview frames under the video, so I can skim through the whole video in seconds.

It's that easy. You shoot the video, and we'll do the work.
